Month of Love Matchmaking: Paint Halter Stallion Edition

February, the “month of love,” brings the spirit of romance and prepares us for spring. We are caught up in the spirit by playing Cupid for your eligible bachelorettes (mares) as we showcase some of the top paint bachelors (stallions) in the industry to be “the one” for your mares this breeding season.

One of the many reasons mare owners love to breed to paint stallions is because of their stunning coat colors. Right before foaling, many horse owners are praying for that “spot” on their baby so that they can be registered for the regular paint division.

As always, color, bloodlines, and conformation are some of the important traits to consider when breeding your mare. These gorgeous stallions are some serious eye candy…so have some fun and happy stallion shopping.

Take this quick, fun quiz to find out which of these amazing stallions you are most like and share your results with your friends.

Bachelor #1

Hes Stylin
Kids Classic Style (multiple AQHA World Champion and leading sire) x Shesascotchbardoll (Multiple World Champion Producer)
Barn Name: “Rocco”
Age and color: 10-year-old bay overo stallion
Owned by: Hes Stylin Syndicate
Accomplishments: Rocco is a multiple APHA World Champion in Open and Amateur Halter Stallions and has won by unanimous decision numerous times.
Accomplishments of offspring: Rocco has been the sire of the leading number of World Champion Halter entries at the APHA World Show, including the sire of Red Hot N Stylish, who was the winner of the prestigious Scarlet Print Award (an award given to a mare who wins youth, amateur and open in their respective age division in the same year) two years in a row after a ten year dry spell since the award has been given. Rocco has been the sire of the highest money-earning foals for the Breeders’ Trust Futurity division at the World Show and is the sire of multiple World and Reserve World Champions every year.
What makes him an outstanding sire? He is quiet and gentle in addition to being structurally correct. He has natural muscle definition and he continues to stamp his babies with his strong and correct traits.
Which dominant traits does he pass on to his offspring? Rocco sires foals with his quiet mind and kind demeanor. He also passes on strong short backs, high loins, long croups, and strong hocks. Additionally, he passes on his size both in physical muscle mass despite being N/N and height (he is close to 17 hands). Another perk is Rocco’s outstanding color-producing genes, including being a dominant bay and white producer.
What types of mares cross best with him? Rocco’s most positive traits seem to come through on every cross. Mares who are moderate framed, heavier chested, or heavier front-ended and need to be modernized, can benefit from the fact that Rocco adds size, pretties up the profile, and adds muscling and height.
Fun Fact: Kelley Deignan-Stone, partner and general manager at Diamond 2M Show Horses, told us that Rocco is a treat hound and loves anything sweet. Amongst his favorite snacks are peppermints, red popsicles, and banana bread, just to name a few.
